FAA Part 107 Exam Registration

Steps for getting signed up for the FAA Part 107 Exam

This page details how to sign up for your FAA Exam, which you need to do in order to obtain your Part 107 drone pilot’s license. While this sounds like a simple task, bouncing from site-to-site and wading through unfamiliar verbiage can add unnecessary stress to your pre-exam experience. We've gone through this process already and would like to save you the hassle, so you can spend more time actually studying.

First, go to the FAA Exam login. Assuming you’re a new flyer, go to the create an account section here

Getting your FAA Tracking Number

1600

You’ll notice that right off the bat, we need an FAA tracking number, which you don’t have yet. Thankfully, they conveniently link the IACRA website in the yellow box at the top, where you can create your own FAA tracking number. Click the link to move to the next step.

1600

Now that you’ve made it to the IACRA website, get started by selecting ‘Register’ on the right.

1600

From here, select the ‘applicant’ role by clicking the radio button. None of the other checkboxes are relevant, so make sure that applicant is the only box you have checked. Once you’ve done that, scroll down to the terms of service, review it, and accept it.

1600

The first box on this screen is for returning pilots only. We are doing this as new users, therefore only the boxes after the first are relevant. Once filled out, you can click ‘register’.

1600

You now have your very own FAA tracking number! Although you’ll get digital confirmation, it doesn’t hurt to write this down somewhere safe for your records.

Now, you can return to the exam eligibility page, where you’ll enter your new FAA tracking number, first and last name, and hit ‘continue’.

Exam Signup

Now, read through the usage acknowledgement and hit ‘accept’ when you’re done. From there, you’ll be prompted to enter your email and create a username and password.

Once completed, head over to your corresponding email inbox to verify the account.

1600

The verification will take you to a new page, where you’ll enter your date of birth, phone number, city, state, postal code, country, citizenship status, and military status. Once that information is entered your FAA account registration is complete. Which means now we can schedule the exam.

You’ll be taken to a new page to select the exam you want to take. Scroll all the way down to Unmanned Aircraft General - Small (UAG) and hit select.

1600

Once there, read through the information and confirm the pre exam data collection by filling in the number of exam attempts and authorization category.

You can select whether or not you need accommodation for your exam on this page as well.

Exam Scheduling

Now, you will be prompted to schedule your exam. This page also includes information on the scheduling procedures and allowed materials list, which I would recommend reading before choosing a date range. Once reviewed, you can enter your location, preferred dates, and distance radius.

1600

You will be provided with a list of options based on the parameters you entered. You could have multiple options from small to large airports, or testing centers.

For example: I took my exam at a middle-sized airport, and they gave me earbuds in case the sound of landing jets bothered me. If you’re sensitive to certain environments, I would recommend calling the testing location ahead of time to gather their thoughts. From there, you can pick whichever option best fits your schedule and gives you a comfortable amount of time to review for the exam.

The final stage is payment. Once paid for, your exam will be scheduled and you’ll receive an email confirmation!
